«The ANZAC Tour» 1 day + 1 night in 3* Hotel
Day 1 - Leaving Istanbul by coach you will be met by your guide at Eceabat, where after lunch (included) you will join your tour.
From here you will tour the ANZAC sector of the battlefield; ANZAC Cove, the tiny beach sandwiched between Hell Spit and Ari Burnu where men from the ANZAC Corps landed on the 25th April 1915.
From here you will also visit Beach Cemetery, where many of these men were buried - John Simpson ‘the man with the donkey’ is also buried here.
Your guide will then take you further up into the hills following the battle lines, from here you will see the very moving statue of a Turkish soldier carrying a wounded Australian Digger - preserved trenches - Lone Pine Cemetery and Memorial to the Australian Missing - Courtney’s Post – etc.
Throughout these areas breathtaking views of the whole battlefields can be seen. Carrying further up into the hills you will see a Turkish cemetery and the 57th Regiment Memorial. Eventually you will reach Chunuck Bair- the Turkish positions so desperately wanted but never taken by the Allied troops. On the top of this ridge the New Zealand National Memorial and the Ataturk Statue stand side by side overlooking the hills and beaches where so many men lost their lives. The ANZAC Corps landed at Anzac Cove on 25 April 1915.
Anzac Cove was not the beach chosen for this landing, Z beach later known as Brighton Beach had been chosen for its wider, longer beaches and easier surrounding terrain.
But a navigational blunder led to the troops arriving at Anzac cove - a mere 600m long, bounded by the headlands of Ari Burnu and Little Ari Burnu, known as Hell Spit.
Following the landing at Anzac Cove, the beach became the main base for the Australian and New Zealand troops for the eight months of the Battle of Gallipoli.
